Showing Statistical Significance

Use the show statistical significance button to display geographic areas significantly different from a selected geography on a thematic map. Geographies that are shaded are statistically similar to the selected geography. Geographies that are not shaded are statistically different form the selected geography.


In the example of Southern states below:

Selected state – Alabama

Statistically significant different states – Georgia and Florida

Statistically significant similar state – South Carolina




Statistical Significance of data is usually reported at the 90% confidence-level.


Use Statistical Significance

1.    Click the statistical significance button, images\ebx_372655109.gif

2.    Click a geography on the map to compare to the surrounding geographies
