Search Results are ranked to display the best search results at the top of the list. American FactFinder lists the results based on the set of rules that follow:
American FactFinder assumes that you are looking for the most current data and so the most current data is listed first. Data that gives an overview is ranked higher than detailed data. For example, a summary data profile of Georgia from 2010 will rank higher than a summary data profile from 2007 and also higher than a data table entitled “Median Income by Place of birth in Georgia” data table from 2010.
Keyword search ranking is dependent on several search fields. The more search fields that match the keywords the higher the search result will appear. Each of the fields are listed under their corresponding search categories below:

Race/Ancestry and Industry Code will search for the Race/Ancestry and Industry Code first and then the Race/Ancestry and Industry Name second to display the suggestions in the search box dropdown
Geography – Geography name for the most popular geographic summary level to display the suggestions in the search box dropdown
Topics – The topic code is ranked highest and then the topic name to display the suggestions in the search box dropdown
