Search Using Keywords

In Advanced Search you can search for data using keywords or phrases. Enter keywords in the Advanced Search search box(es) or enter several keywords to create a phrase. A drop-down list of suggested search terms appears as you enter text. Select a suggested term from the list or type your own and click GO. The keywords and phrases you enter appear in Your Selections and your data search results are updated.

 

Search Rules

The following table provides examples of search rules and explanations of results

The search system ignores symbols except asterisks (*) and quotation marks(“) or (‘)

Common words such as: for, the, a, in

Words like ‘for’ and ‘the’ are ignored.

 

You may experience the following search outcomes in American FactFinder:

     Search result contains data that matches your keyword or phrase.

     Did You Mean list appears with a list of suggested search terms. Search using one of these terms instead of your original term.

     No results found appears. Try a different search term or phrase.

     No matching codes appears. Try a different search term or phrase.

 

 

Removing Filters

1.    To remove a filter, click the remove filter button images\ebx_-1408035215.gif

2.    To remove all filters, click images\ebx_72624789.gif

 

 

Error Messages

You may encounter the following error messages using Advanced Search:

 

“No results were found for search term(s) you entered.”

American FactFinder could not find matching data products based on the search term(s) you entered. Modify your selections and try again.

"No occupation codes were found that match the combination of items in 'Your Occupation Code Filters' and 'Your Selections'.Try removing items from 'Your Occupation Code Filters' or from 'Your Selections' to continue searching."

American FactFinder could not find matching occupation codes based on the search term(s) you entered. Modify your occupation code filters and try again.

“No race of ethnic groups were found that match the combination of items in 'Your Race and Ethnic Group Filters' and 'Your Selections'. Try removing items from 'Your Race and Ethnic Group Filters' or from 'Your Selections' to continue searching..”.

American FactFinder could not find matching race and ethnic groups based on the search term(s) you entered. Modify your race and ethnic group filters and try again.

"No industry codes were found that match the combination of items in 'Your Industry Code Filters' and 'Your Selections'. Try removing items from 'Your Industry Code Filters' or from 'Your Selections' to continue searching."

American FactFinder could not find matching industry codes based on the search term(s) you entered. Modify your industry code filters and try again.
