Advanced Search Overview

In Advanced Search you can search for all data using all features within American Factfinder. If you’re looking for quick information on your community, see Community Facts. If you’re unsure how to start in American FactFinder, use Guided Search.

 

Use Advanced Search to find data:

     using text or keyword search

     using pre-defined topics, geographies, race/ethnic groups, industry codes, or EEO occupation codes

 

Advanced Search is accessible on the Main Page or using the top navigation menu that appears on every page in AFF.

Find data using text or keywords in the Advanced Search boxes:

     to search on a subject such as age, or using a table ID, click the topics radio button, then enter a word, phrase or table ID in the topic or table name search box. Click go to search for all tables with data on the topic or with your search term in the title, column headings, or row labels.

     to search using race, ancestries, or tribes, click the race/ancestry radio button. Enter a word or phrase in the search box and click go to search for demographic data about the race or ethnic groups you entered (e.g., White Alone).

     If you want to search for data about industries, click the industries radio button. Enter a word or phrase in the search box and click go to find economic data using industry codes (e.g., Mining).

     to search for EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity )data using occupations, click the EEO occupations radio button. Enter an word or phrase in the search box and click go to search for EEO data using occupation codes (e.g., judges).

 

To find data for a specific simple geography, use the state, county, or place search box :

     Enter a state, county, place (city or town), zip code geography search box and click go to search for all data about your geography (e.g., Washington).

For more complex or detailed geography searches, for areas such as metropolitan statistical areas, urban areas, census tracts, blocks, etc., use the Geographies box described below.

 

You can also search for data using the topics, geographies, race and ethnic groups, industry codes, and EEO occupation codes search boxes on the left navigation.
